about

The title was partly an allusion to the Arabic Maqam I was basing the music on, Maqam Sikah, though at the time I did not know much about that Maqam beyond the notes involved. This Maqam is unusual to us westerners due to its tonic being on a quartertone, but not most of its other notes. But the title is also an implication of the story I saw in my head for the song: a secret moonlit rendezvous of two forbidden lovers, calling out to each other in the dark--and eventually fleeing together into the night.
